WFH Stretching Exercises: 5-Minute Routine to Undo 8 Hours at Your Desk
Share
You haven't moved in three hours.
Literally. You sat down at 9AM and it's now noon and you've been in the exact same position.
Your neck is tight. Your shoulders are up by your ears. Your back feels like someone tied it in knots.
And honestly? This is just what working from home does to your body.
But here's the thing: five minutes of stretching exercises can undo hours of sitting damage. You just have to actually do them.
Here's your routine.
1. Neck Rolls (30 Seconds)
Drop your chin to your chest. Slowly roll your head to one side. Then the other side.
Feel all that tension in your neck releasing. All those knots from staring at your screen for hours.
Do this slowly. Don't rush it. Your neck has been holding SO much tension.
2. Shoulder Shrugs (10 Reps)
Lift your shoulders up to your ears. Hold for 2 seconds. Drop them down.
You'll feel how tight your shoulders actually are. How much tension you're carrying there without even realizing it.
Do 10 slow reps. Feel the tension releasing with each one.
3. Seated Spinal Twist (30 Seconds Each Side)

Sit in your chair. Twist your upper body to one side. Hold the back of your chair for support.
Your spine has been locked in one position all day. This mobilizes it. Gets it moving again.
Hold 30 seconds each side. Breathe into it.
4. Standing Forward Fold (60 Seconds)
Stand up. Bend forward at your hips. Let your arms hang down toward the floor.
This stretches your entire back body. Hamstrings. Lower back. Upper back. Everything that gets tight from sitting.
Don't force it. Just hang there for 60 seconds. Let gravity do the work.
5. Chest Opener Against Wall (30 Seconds Each Side)

Stand next to a wall. Put your forearm flat against it. Turn your body away from the wall.
You'll feel this in your chest and shoulder. All those muscles that get SO tight from hunching over your keyboard.
Hold 30 seconds each side. This is a desk stretch that actually makes a difference.
6. Hip Flexor Stretch (30 Seconds Each Side)
Step into a lunge position. Keep your back leg straight. Feel the stretch in the front of your hip.
Your hip flexors get incredibly tight from sitting. And when they're tight, everything else compensates.
This one stretching exercise alone can fix SO much discomfort.
7. Wrist and Finger Stretches (30 Seconds)
Extend one arm forward. Pull your fingers back with your other hand. Then pull them down.
Your wrists and hands have been typing all day. They need stretching too.
30 seconds total. Both hands. Don't skip this.
